Molecular Biology Intern


Position Overview:
Genvax Technologies seeks a Molecular Biology Intern to help perform directed research and assist in vaccine
development. Your project will be to assist in development and validation of self-amplifying RNA vaccines to
improve animal health. You will work closely with a mentor to develop and execute an independent project.
This is a unique opportunity to work in the early stages of a startup company. This is a paid internship and runs
from May 27th to August 15th (dates flexible) with potential to stay on through the school year or for
post-graduation employment.
Essential Job Functions:
● Spend time with full-time scientists learning how the laboratory operates and assisting on projects
● Train on existing SOPs, processes, procedures, and systems to independently conduct experiments
● Maintain detailed experimental records, reports, and inventories in electronic lab notebooks
● Deliver results in fast changing business and regulatory environments
● Contribute to product, process, or other related improvements
● Perform investigations on product and process defects to identify root cause and implement
corrective/preventative action (CAPA)
● Execute an independent project related to Genvax’s research and present findings to the Genvax team
at the end of the internship. Depending on the research, we are willing to discuss allowing the intern to
present at poster contests.
● All other tasks as needed by the Company
Qualifications:
● Pursuit of an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry,
Genetics, or related field
● Must be attending an Iowa college or university, or have graduated from an Iowa high school and attend
a college or university outside of Iowa
● Preference will be given to students within 1-2 years of graduation
● Previous hands-on laboratory experience is a plus
● High attention to detail
● Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new skill sets quickly
● Experience managing independent projects
● Basic computer skills required
Organizational Relationships:
● Reports to the VP of Research and Development
● Hours are Monday through Friday with a minimum of 30 hours per week and a maximum of 40 hours
per week.
